Centre Tuesday 21st February- 8.30 am Morning Prayer- Readings are Psalm 73, Genesis 37:12-end & Galations 2:11-end 9.30 am Eucharist for Shrove Tuesday 10.15 am Junior School Service Wednesday 22nd February- ASH WEDNESDAY, The first day of Lent 8.30 am Morning Prayer- Readings are Psalm 38, Daniel 9;3-6 & 17-19, and 1 Timothy 6;6-19 9.30 am Eucharist & Imposition of Ashes 1.15 pm FUNERAL of Cilla Gordon 7.00 pm Eucharist & Imposition of Ashes (at St. Nicholas) Thursday 23rd February- Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna & martyr, c 155 Daily Readings- Psalm 77, Genesis 39 & Galations 2:11-end 9.30 am Eucharist (at St. Nicholas) 11.00 am Extended Eucharist at Cross Keys Day Centre Polycarp was martyred at the age of 86 in reaction to the unrelated killimg of a youth called Germanicus at a Pagan Festival. His killing was called for by the crowd, he waited calmly for his captors, & invited them to eata meal while he prayed for an hour. He was killed after interrrogation (when his faith never wavered) at the games in the Amphitheatre- being bound, killed with a sword then burnt at the stake. Fellow Christians collected his bones buried him, and wrote an account of his trial and martyrdom- the first authentic example of its kind.
